After three years of plain amber based shirts, the club celebrated its centenary in 2004 by bringing out a kit similar to the design of the one worn 100 years ago, and followed that with two more striped designs.
In Umbro's first season of a three-year manufacturing deal, promotion was achieved whilst wearing an all amber shirt but for pattern on the shoulders and sides that looked almost like, but not quite, tiger skin. City's first season in the Premier League was back in standard stripes, followed by an 80's-style pinstripe shirt, described by then chairman Paul Duffen as being somewhere in between the previous two designs.
