Peter Taylor takes his side to Harrogate Town tomorrow, but they will be without centre back Anderson who has picked up an injury in training.
He has suffered a stress fracture to a bone in his left foot, and has his leg in plaster. He is set to be out of action for at least 6 weeks, meaning he will miss all of the pre-season build up as well as the opening games of the new league season.
Manager Taylor said: "The x-rays suggest it is an old injury that has flared up on the hard grounds and John's been very unlucky."
Anderson is the only casualty of pre-season so far, so City have plenty of cover in the shape of Marc Joseph, Justin Whittle, Damien Delaney, Steve Burton, Richard Hinds and Alton Thelwell.
City fans will have their first glimpse of the new look side - who will wear the new black away kit - at Wetherby Road tomorrow. Kick off is at 7:45pm, and admission is £6 adults, £3 concessions.
