After a brief spell as captain last year, the 26-year-old has worn the armband in the first three games of this season. On the opening day he chose to pass the armband on to Justin Whittle when the defender came on as a substitute, but in the Carling Cup game at Wigan - when Whittle started the match - Taylor surprisingly picked Ashbee to lead the team out.
Taylor has now revealed that Ashbee will be his permanent first choice skipper, with defender Marc Joseph named vice-captain.
32-year-old Whittle - who is City's longest serving player after almost five years in Hull - will be the "club captain".
Taylor is famed for his decisions on this matter since he first gave David Beckham the England captaincy three years ago.
