The Tigers' tally of just seven home wins was amongst the worst in the Championship in the 2010/11 campaign and their 11th-placed finish owed a lot to impressive results on the road.
Barmby told the Hull Daily Mail: "We want to change some of the things from last year. We want to put the home form right and make the KC a fortress.
"We want to make sure teams come to us and know they're in for a game. If we can keep our away form going as well and be a little bit more consistent then we've got a chance.
"We'll get pre-season out of the way first but the goals in the camp are very optimistic."
