Brown told the Hull Daily Mail: "The chairman told me I've got the game tomorrow and hopefully, there'll be a lot more than just the one game.
"The dialogue between myself and the chairman has been very open and very honest."
He added: "I can't say too much and at this time, the dialogue we've had has to remain in-house. As long as we're both honest with one another, I can't ask for anything more as a caretaker."
Former Derby boss Brown also said that the best backing for the job he can get is if the players put in a performance tomorrow at Plymouth that shows they want him as manager.
Captain Ian Ashbee has already given his weight towards Brown's bid: "I can't speak for everyone in the squad but in my opinion, I would love to see Brownie get the job.
"He's a good coach, he's enthusiastic and puts across some very good points out on the training pitch.
"However long he's got, we'll have to do our best to make sure he'll have a crack at being the manager for longer. We are playing for the future of this football club but also for the manager now."
Ashbee's comments also suggest that the players weren't behind Phil Parkinson during his reign as manager, but are still sympathetic of his circumstances: "No one likes to see a man lose his job - regardless of whether you like him or not. At the end of the day, he's a human being with a young family so it's not a nice thing to see."
Although Adam Pearson's not giving anything away, it would seem that if Phil Brown manages to turn things around and prove the players will play for him, the job could be his.
