The 21-year-old, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Carlisle, has signed a three-and-half-year deal and could start in central defence.
Fellow defender Paul McShane could also return after recovering from a shoulder injury, while goalkeeper Brad Guzan and Aaron Mclean, a recent signing from MK Dons, are also expected to be included after both being ineligible for last weekend's FA Cup clash.
Goalkeeper Vito Mannone, on loan from Arsenal, is still struggling with a thigh injury, defender Liam Rosenior will be missing as he sits out the final game of a three-match ban and midfielder Tom Cairney, who scalded himself at home last week, will not be included despite returning to training.
