Mick Matthews has been the club's physio for the last few years, but manager Pater Taylor is instead opting to have a full time physio at the club.
Hull-born Matthews was once a City player, playing 20 times in the 1991/92 and scoring 3 goals, but his return to the club ends with the arrival of Maltby.
Taylor said: "It's an area we used to contract out but I wanted to bring someone into the building on a regular basis and Simon has all the right credentials. He will be looking after all the players and will be appointing his own assistant to help out."
Meanwhile, City 'keeper Alan Fettis is missing the start of pre-season training as he is taking a coaching course in Northern Ireland.
