Chairman Adam Pearson revealed "we are definitely interested in Andy Dawson", who is out of contract at Glanford Park.
The Iron's promotion hopes came to an end last night, losing to Lincoln in the play-offs, and the 24-year-old left-back may be looking to move on.
Dawson has scored 10 goals in over 200 starts for Scunthorpe since signing from Nottingham Forest in 1999, where he never made a first team appearance after coming through the youth ranks.
Should Dawson move north of the Humber then it surely signals the end for Andy Holt and Shaun Smith, who are already behind Damien Delaney and Steve Burton in the pecking order for the left-back place.
Meanwhile, Pearson also confirmed City are still interested in Grimsby's John McDermott, but it is likely to be next month until signings are announced. However, Darren Wrack isn't expected to be among the new recruits, as he is set to sign a new deal with Walsall.
