Windass scored 6 minutes into the second half and City end the day with 49 points.
Leeds were beating Ipswich from the 12th minute at Elland Road courtesy of Richard Cresswell's goal, but Alan Lee levelled for Ipswich in the 88th minute. There were 6 minutes of stoppage time to play in that match, and a pitch invasion in the final seconds of that in protest at Ken Bates and Dennis Wise's management cut it short as the referee called the players off the pitch. After over 30 minutes of restoring order, the referee decided to bring the players back onto the pitch to resume play with a Leeds corner kick which was cleared, and after a few more seconds the full time whistle was finally blown shortly before 5:30pm.
The draw leaves Leeds on 46 points, 3 behind City and with a goal difference inferior by 9. They would need to thrash Derby on the final day and hope for City to lose to Plymouth in order to stay up on goal difference, but other than the slim chance of that scenario Leeds will drop down to League One.
Barnsley's defeat to Leicester means they're just one point ahead of the Tigers. QPR lost to Wolves so are 3 ahead of City.
Southend lose 1-3 to Luton and go down.
