The left-back joined City in July 2004, signing a one-year deal on a free transfer from Hibernian. He played 16 games, helping City to promotion last season, and had his contract extended for another year.

However, he isn't going to see it out until the summer. He'd played 9 times this season, the last of those the defeat at Burnley in October, before suffering a groin injury.

The news of his departure comes unexpectedly, as he we still a part of Peter Taylor's squad, often being preferred to Andy Dawson for a starting place.

Taylor now may move to replace him, as Dawson and utility player Damien Delaney are the only left backs in his squad now.
