Gerrard has formed a solid partnership with recent signing James Chester at the heart of defence, with Hull keeping a second clean sheet in three matches in a goalless draw with QPR on Saturday.
The 28-year-old said: "We showed some great qualities on Saturday. The team is progressing nicely.
"We're building confidence, building as a unit and building the points up so I'm more than happy with the clean sheet we got on Saturday.
"We were solid throughout and I didn't feel as though they had that many clear-cut chances. Me and Chezzy are working well together. He's a quiet lad, but he listens to everything that you say to him.
"We've got a big game coming up against Leeds now which will be tough, but we're all looking forward to the challenge."
