An x-ray revealed a fracture to his left foot, and Anderson said he was "looking at around six weeks minimum" before he'll be back in action.
However, reports today state that there's a chance he'll be back playing by the end of the month.
Peter Taylor reveals the latest: "People are telling me it could be anything from two to six weeks. If it's the latter then obviously John is struggling for the first few games of the season.
Hope For Anderson
"However, we're looking on the positive side of things and he could be back earlier than that. He's in plaster for another couple of weeks and we'll have another look at the foot then. Hopefully he'll be okay to start training again."
City play their first pre-season friendly tonight, travelling to Unibond Premiership side Harrogate Town. Anderson is expected to be joined on the sidelines by Ian Ashbee. The midfielder missed the closing months of last season with an ankle injury and won't be rushed back tonight.
Taylor said: "Ian has done the same training as everyone else but the physio is just a bit concerned that it might be a gamble playing him tonight. It's nothing to worry about though and he could play at Bradford on Monday."
Meanwhile, Taylor added his plans for the game tonight: "Everyone will have 45 minutes and it will be good to get back into some form of action again. While we want to win every game we play, the fitness side of things is more important than the result, although obviously I'll be watching individual performances closely."
