The 25-year-old was transfer listed by Peter Taylor after failing to make in impact in his one season at the club.
He'd joined in a £100,000 deal from Stockport last summer, but never established himself in the first team. In only his second game he was shown a red card, and then went on loan to Oldham in October, where he scored twice in five games.
He finally broke his duck for City with the winner against Huddersfield on new year's day, and followed it with a goal at his old stomping ground of Edgeley Park two days later.
That was the last time the 6'3" forward found the net, and 2 goals in 11 starts and 9 substitute appearances sealed his fate.
He had vowed to fight for his place after shunning interest from Rotherham, but has now agreed a three-year deal with League Two side Milton Keynes Dons.
Meanwhile, his old teammates were joined by five new faces for the first day of pre-season training today. Goalkeeper Sergio Leite, right-back Mark Lynch, midfielders Curtis Woodhouse and Keith Andrews, and striker Steve McPhee met Peter Taylor and his squad for training at Brantingham Park. The new centre back Taylor is after is yet to sign, with target Matt Heath of Leicester now subject of a bid from Coventry. 23-year-old Bristol City defender Daniel Coles is rumoured to be another centre back Taylor is interested in.
The City boss may also turn his head towards signing a new forward after releasing both Wilbraham and Jon Walters this summer. Falkirk's Darryl Duffy and Dagenham & Redbridge striker Chris Moore are two players he has previously revealed possible moves for.
