Despite claiming a draw against high-flying Swansea yesterday, Harriers boss Ian Britton was dismissed by chairman Colin Youngjohns. It was only the 12th point gained from their opening 14 games, and the Midlands side also fell at the first hurdle in both the Carling Cup and LDV Trophy.
They now turn back to former Liverpool player Jan Molby, who left Kidderminster in March 2002 to become Hull City manager. He was sacked in October after claiming just 2 wins, and replaced by Peter Taylor.
Since then, Molby has been coaching at Nuneaton Borough but going back to league management was always his preference. Tuesday's game against Northampton will see him return as Director of Football at Aggborough, aiming to lift them from 22nd in the table.
Youngjohns said: "When we made decision to change the manager we had to look at who was best equipped to make an immediate impact; whatever anybody says Jan did a terrific job during his first stint here.
"Had we have brought a new man in it would have taken them time to adjust and who's to say he would have succeeded? Jan knows the club and many of the players better than most people and we have every confidence in him to turns things back around as soon as possible."
Molby may look to link-up again with midfielder Richie Appleby, who hasn't played for City this season. The Dane - who won the Conference title in his first spell at Kidderminster - has signed Appleby for every club he's managed.
Britton - whose side finished 11th last year - is the third managerial casualty of the season in Division Three. Carlisle's Roddy Collins was first out, while Bobby Gould parted company with Cheltenham this weekend. Elsewhere, former City manager Brian Little was recently given the Tranmere job.
