The Tigers are unbeaten in their last four league matches following Saturday's 2-2 draw at Middlesbrough but are now only two points clear of the relegation zone.
Pearson said: "We've become slightly harder to beat on our travels which is good but we're still playing catch-up and there's very little margin for error at the moment because of the poor start that we had."
Hull twice conceded the lead at a snowbound Riverside but stretched their unbeaten run in away league matches to five.
Pearson added: "I'm pleased with how the players applied themselves because it was very difficult out there.
"The conditions underfoot were very tricky and at times pretty dangerous but we stuck at it and got something out of the game."
