Mr. Parkes is in his third season as a league referee. His first ever game was City's clash at Exeter on the first day of the 1999/2000 season. He showed red to Mark Greaves shortly before half time. The Grecians went on to win the game with an 84th minute goal.
Since then he has refereed two other City fixtures: a 2-1 win against Carlisle and a 0-0 draw with Macclesfield. He showed a total of 14 yellow cards over the two games. The Macclesfield game was the most memorable. Mr. Parkes had the chance to send off City debutant Kevin Francis for a reckless tackle early in the game, but showed just yellow, while fellow debutant Rodney Rowe, Ian Goodison and Gary Brabin were all involved in incidents.
So far in 2002, Mr. Parkes has yet to dismiss anyone, with his red card last being shown in November. In fact, he sent two players for early baths in the same game. Ex-Tiger Chris Hargreaves was sent off in the first half for Northampton, while Bury had their 'keeper dismissed 20 minutes from time.
Parkes' biggest honour was refereeing last season's Women's FA Cup Final. Previously he had been linesman for the '99 FA Trophy Final and the '98 FA County Youth Cup Final.
