The Scotsman said: "The chairman has asked me to look after the team for the Swansea game with a view to maybe doing the job until the end of the season.
"But as things stand we're taking one step at a time and I'm more than happy with that.
"I'll be sitting down with Derek Bell and Rod Arnold before picking a side.
"We haven't had chance to do so yet but we'll be having a good look at the available players and trying to send out a side than can get us a result."
Meanwhile Chairman Adam Pearson speaks very highly of the former Rotherham full-back, who took the City Juniors to promotion this season.
"I've been very impressed with Billy and he's done a cracking job with our youth set-up this season. At the moment, he's agreed to take charge of the team for the final 11 games of this season - starting at Swansea tonight.
"I'm not so sure what Billy's plans are beyond that but if he can guide us to promotion, then obviously I'd consider him for the position - if he wants the job."
