Malcolm died in a car accident in Jamaica in January 2001, though there is confusion as to who was driving the car. Whitmore claims that 'Shorty' Malcolm himself was at the wheel, but a six-member jury took just 15 minutes to come to the conclusion that 'Tappa' Whitmore was in fact the one driving and therefore responsible for his international team-mate's death.
Whitmore is not under contract with any club at the moment after both he and fellow 'Reggae Boy' Ian Goodison were given free transfers by City in April after almost 2 years at Boothferry Park.
