The centre back is two years into his present contract, having joined from Brentford in 2006. There is one year remaining on that contract, but he has now agreed new terms that will keep him at the club until 2011 - the longest contact of any player at the club. The paperwork will be completed next week.
Dean Windass also recently signed an improved contract, while chairman Paul Duffen says a number of other deals have been concluded in private.
Meanwhile, the club record for season ticket sales has been broken. Over 14,000 passes for 2008/09 have been sold so far.
