Phil Parkinson managed to bring in two strikers, Nicky Forster and Michael Bridges, ahead of the midnight deadline for transfers last night.
Keith Andrews was the first to leave, joining Milton Keynes Dons a day before the deadline on Wednesday. In just over a year at the club, he made 30 appearances after moving from Wolves. He's joined Martin Allen's League Two club on a free transfer. Boss Allen has subsequently given the midfielder the captaincy.
Next out was Ben Burgess. He joined City almost 3½ years ago in a £100,000 move from Stockport. He was top scorer in the 2003/04 promotion year, but two games from the end of the season he suffered a broken leg, which sidelined him for a year. Further injuries have followed, and Phil Parkinson says the move to Blackpool will help the 24-year-old get his career back on track. The Seasiders will pay an initial £25,000 fee for his services, which will rise to £100,000 after his 30th appearance for the club.
Mark Lynch has made his loan spell at Yeovil Town permanent. The right back has signed until the end of the season with no transfer fee involved.
Stuart Green has been reunited with his old Tigers boss Peter Taylor at Crystal Palace. The 25-year-old has joined the Eagles in a £75,000 deal, ending his four-year association with Hull City. He was a key member of the back-to-back promotion team, but has since fallen out of favour and did not figure in Parkinson's plans. City recoup half of the £150,000 paid to Newcastle to bring the midfielder to Hull in 2002 after impressing on loan.
Incoming is former Gillingham, Brentford, Birmingham and Reading player Nicky Forster from Ipswich. The 5'9" striker, who turns 33 this month, has scored 141 goals in 369 league starts, and costs £250,000. He's been given Burgess's old number 9 shirt.
Joining him is Michael Bridges from Carlisle. 16 goals for Sunderland after coming through the Mackems youth team preceded a £6million move to Leeds United in 1999. He scored 19 Premiership goals in the 1999/2000 season, but a series of injuries all but ruined his career. He went on to have unsuccesful spells at Newcastle, Bolton, Sunderland again and Bristol City, before reviving his career at Carlisle. He helped them to promotion from League Two last season, and joins City for £325,000. The 28-year-old will wear the number 17 shirt.
Parkinson will have to wait until next Saturday, at Birmingham, to try out his new strike partnership due to this weekend's international fixtures. Jon Parkin, the subject of a reported £750,000 bid from Leeds which was turned down, could find his place in the side threatened, while Darryl Duffy, Nick Barmby and Craig Fagan will also see chances up front limited. Winger Mark Yeates, yet to play since joining on loan from Spurs, could also be introduced at St. Andrews. Parkinson's spending is now thought to be over £2million on six signings.
