Following the signings of John Anderson and Greg Strong competition is fierce for the two centre back places, with Justin Whittle, Mark Greaves, Matt Bloomer, Nicky Mohan, Ben Petty and Steve Burton also gunning for starting places.

Since Brian Little signed him in January from Brighton he has made 14 starts for City, but after being handed the number 27 shirt by Jan Molby and featuring in the 'reserves' over pre-season, the 23-year-old former Peterborough defender feels he needs to move on for first team football.

He joins Lee Philpott and Nicky Mohan on the transfer list, while Mike Price has come off after impressing in pre-season. The trio are all available on free transfers to any interested clubs. Wicks still has two years to run on his contract, while Mohan has rejected a pay-off from the club to end his present deal.

Meanwhile Carlo Itonga will play his second game for City tomorrow at North Ferriby. The 20-year-old Arsenal forward played alongside fellow trialists Fabio Melo and Carl Shippen at Selby on Wednesday in the 3-0 defeat. Melo and Shippen did not impress Molby, but Itonga is worth another look at says the City manager.

"Itonga is due to stay with us until the weekend and to be fair to the lad he'll probably get another run-out at North Ferriby on Saturday.
"However, I can't see us keeping the other two and I'll tell them today that they can leave."
