Macclesfield Town have completed the signing of Steve Payne from Second Division Chesterfield after agreeing personal terms with the defender. The Silkmen have also agreed to pay the Spireites a small fee for the player who returns to Moss Rose where helped the club win two Conference titles before joining Chesterfield in 1999. Meanwhile, defender Danny Adams has joined Second Division Stockport County for an undisclosed fee after the 28-year-old handed in a transfer request.

First Division Watford have completed the signing of Lincoln City left-back Paul Mayo after agreeing on a £100,000 fee. 22-year-old Mayo has signed a three-year deal at Vicarage Road replacing Paul Robinson who left to join West Brom earlier this season.

Doncaster Rovers boss Dave Penney has been dealt a blow with the news that Francis Tierney is set to miss the remainder of the season. The midfielder is facing a third operation in three months in a bid to cure a niggling cartilage problem.

Des Byrne and John Slaven have left Carlisle United after having their contracts with the Cumbrians terminated by mutual consent.

Mansfield Town boss Keith Curle is looking to bring former Stags striker back to Field Mill from First Division Stoke City. Curle is looking to bring the 26-year-old - who scored 58 goals in a three year spell at the club before he joined Stoke on a free transfer in 2002 - back to to the club on in a loan deal until the end of the season.

Rochdale boss Steve Parkin has recalled striker Lee McEvilly from his loan spell at Conference side Accrington Stanley due to an injury crisis at the club.

Andy Bishop has seen his loan spell at Yeovil Town cut short after suffering a number of injuries whilst at Huish Park. Striker Bishop has returned to First Division Walsall after scoring twice for the Glovers in five appearances but it's unlikely that Yeovil boss Gary Johnson will make a permanent move for the player in the near future.

Cheltenham Town have lost the services of Karl Henry after Stoke City recalled the influential midfielder due to a number of injuries to players at the club.

Torquay United chairman Mike Bateson has dismissed reports linking Gulls boss Leroy Rosenior with the vacant managerial position at Second Division Plymouth Argyle.

Darlington keeper Andy Collett has been forced to retire from the game after deciding against having surgery on a shoulder injury. Collett has spent the last four-and-a-half-years at the club following spells with Middlesbrough and Bristol Rovers.
