Player Ratings: Hull City 1-2 Derby County

Last updated : 12 August 2006 By Andy Beill
Boaz Myhill (7) - Could have done better with the penalty, and looked angry not to have saved it.

Sam Ricketts (7) - Settling in okay. Doesn't get forward much, but this keeps us safer down the right when Fagan's bombing forward.

Andy Dawson (7) - Very good as usual. Gets down the line well. Seems to have been unlucky with the penalty decision. Nice for him to get the armband today.

Sam Collins (7) - Did very well considering he's only half fit (and looked it at times). Distribution was poor. His long throws are a weapon if the players in the box can use them.

Michael Turner (7) - Fine. Doesn't look anything special and on the showings so far he probably wouldn't get in ahead of Coles and Delaney, but he's doing well enough.

Craig Fagan (7) - He's a threat to the opposition when things are going our way. He's a threat to himself and the team when they're not. Example being the petulant shove/challenge in the 90th minute - very stupid thing to do, it was right in front of the officials who gave Derby the free kick, and it wasted a minute in the kick being taken and getting the ball back up field when we didn't have that time to waste. He was pulled up for fouls earlier in the game as well, which was always going to happen with that ref. Had a half-decent left-foot shot in the first half but otherwise doesn't look a goalscorer.

Ryan France (6) - Did well in the move for our penalty but not much else. He doesn't even use his left foot when dribbling down the wing, which is ridiculous as it takes his run towards the line, instead of inside which is surely what he'd want so he can cross with his right foot. Get him off the left wing, and out of the team altogether so he can build himself up in the gym and get some specialist training and reserve games to be converted to a box-to-box central midfielder, which would surely be where his strengths would be best used.

Dean Marney (6) - Wasn't in the game today.

David Livermore (7) - Promising debut for us. Control looks to be very good. Should have been booked for a poor challenge, but other tackles were good. Quite effective and influential from this first showing.

Darryl Duffy (5) - Should have gone off as soon as he got injured as this stopped the very little running he was doing.

Jon Parkin (7) - Worked well, took a good penalty, but why on earth didn't he bury that shot in the dying minutes instead of waiting for the defender to get back? That should have been the equaliser and I think he knows it.

Subs
Nick Barmby (7) - Did well considering his fitness but didn't have a massive impact - can we please at least try him in a position other than centre forward? Pushed it a little bit with the referee, but I think that was his eagerness showing through after so long off the pitch.

Stuart Elliott (5) - Didn't touch the ball for 10 minutes after coming on.

Keith Andrews (5) - We had our centre backs in the box, the Beast to aim at as well, and who does he aim a ball from 50 yards out at? 5'7" Nick Barmby. He played another useless ball down the left that went out. His chances are running out, and now we've got Livermore and Ashbee not far from returning either, he's got no place in our squad.
