Short summer or what? Decent warm up game. I love the games at small grounds where you can hear and see everything.
First Half:
Duke
Wiseman Joseph Delaney Dawson
Green Fry Ashbee Ellison
Barmby Fagan
Tough start, first minute Joseph clobbered the no. 9 in a 50/50 leading to a 2 minute delay! We were patient at the back but going nowhere. Wiseman looked very rusty, and he and Joseph didn't mesh well. Winterton were a very sideways team, but rough and touh at the back. Fagan started to cause a lot of trouble, Green came more and more into it. Only a few half chances for the first 20 minutes or so. First real chance came when a defender misjudged the ball and Fagan whacked over. Ellison had several crossing chances, but overhit them all. Fagan then burst clear and as the keeper approached, knocked sideways for Green to tap in after about 35 mins. A good ball put Barmby clear, he rounded the keeper and fed Fagan who was denied my a defender on the line. A decent move led to Ellison on the edge of the box and he smashed it in for 2-0. Short corner then crossed well by Wiseman, met hard by Joseph but the ball hit the bar and bounced down onto the line, but not over. Uninspiring first half. Delaney, Fagan and Green were impressive.
Half time, Players stay on the pitch, Andrews jumps the barrier to have a pee against a wall!
Second Half:
Leite
Lynch Cort Butler Edge
Price Andrews Woodhouse Elliott
Burgess McPhee
Much better start to the second half. Aside from Butler who was a liability, it was a good performance. Andrews and Woodhouse dominated midfield. Early on Woodhouse sent Edge away down the wing, he fired across perfectly and Price, from 2 yards, hit the keeper. A superb cross field ball from Andrews was met by Elliott but he tamely volleyed wide. He was the only person in the box, but I think he thought he as offside. Good left foted corner from Woodhouse then met by Cort for 3-0. Another Edge raid and cross just cleared from McPhee. McPhee working hard, Woodhouse very impressive, great ball retention, Burgess sluggish and Elliott way off the pace and poor touches. Edge was the best player on the pitch though, great attacking runs and solid at the back. Leite made a smart low save after no. 9 outpaced Butler and then made a brave challenge after a poor Butler back pass. Burgess met an Edge cross and headed against the bar for a second time, before the kepper clobbered McPhee in the box and Elliott smacked home the pen. McPhee stayed off and we finished comfortably with 10 men.
Good work out, but no more. Promising start for Woodhouse, Fagan looked hungry, Edge was superb. Welcome back boys.
