Goal of the Month

Last updated : 02 September 2007 By Andy Beill
City scored 9 goals in the opening month of the season.

The first was Dean Windass's early strike against Plymouth, finishing the rebound to Nick Barmby's shot that hit the post.

The second was Dean Marney following in Windass' saved penalty in the same match.

Michael Bridges also had a penalty saved at Crewe in the Carling Cup, only to score from the rebound himself.

In the second half at Crewe, Richard Garcia scored his first goal for the club following a run and a shot from outside the area.

Steve McPhee also broke his duck to complete the 3-0 win, latching onto a defensive mix-up to score.

Back in the league, Nick Barmby earned City a point at Coventry by squeezing in a header from Sam Ricketts' cross.

At home to Norwich, Michael Bridges set up a chance which Ian Ashbee stepped over for Dean Windass to score from almost 25 yards out.

Windass claimed an assist for the second goal of that game, timing his cross to perfection to find Richard Garcia at the back post to fire home.

The final goal of the month was in the Carling Cup win at Wigan. Stuart Elliott intercepted a poor pass to lob home his first League Cup goal in over 5 years at the club.
