A crazy transfer window took a further twist for City this week. Those Steve Bruce-like noises heard in the background when City rang Fraizer Campbell "on holiday" turned out to be Steve Bruce. In Sunderland. Signing Fraizer.
On to the next target and news broke straight away of a £4million bid for Bobby 'twice a season' Zamora. What's that you say? He also got two in the Cup last season? Make that £5million, confirmed on Fulham's official website. Talks with the player taking place this weekend, says City's official website. Not prepared to let him go, says Roy Hodgson. I'm unsure if by that he means he's not willing to let him go, or if he just wasn't prepared for it happening because he wasn't expecting anyone to bid for him.
NOT BITTER
Three known strikers are understood to have spoken to City this summer (or their dads have, anyway) and chosen other clubs instead. This week we had a bid accepted for Daryl Murphy (post-haste) and with no competition still couldn't agree personal terms.
NOT A TRACE OF DOUBT IN MY MIND
"There still seems quite a bit of belief in me," says Caleb Folan, failing to finish the sentence: "...being the only striker at the club when the season starts."
Come on, let's stay positive, we might not see Caleb struggling against John Terry on the opening day. Manchester City could buy him.
TRY ME FREE
Somebody's interested in signing anyway as Jerome Thomas joins on trial today. The winger is best known for being the cousin of rapper Kano, who is best known for being the cousin of footballer Jerome Thomas.
GET RIDS
Reports have circulated about a double swoop for Cardiff duo Joe Ledley and Ross McCormack. The rumours are discredited by that fine upstanding citizen Peter Ridsdale - so it must be true.
REPETEZ S'IL VOUS PLAIT
In a typical non-story, Bernard Mendy said he’d move to a bigger club if one came in for him. Keep dreaming ‘Nard.
NEXT WEEK...
Phil Brown bolsters his forward line by signing three new strikers. (I always write something daft in this bit)
