With promotion all but guaranteed attention is already turning to next season and Division 2 football. Murmurs from the Tigers' backroom suggest new arrivals may number no more than 4. If this were to be the case, who might we move for? Of the current 24-man squad we have 7 players with question marks hanging over their futures. Musselwhite, Peat, Whittle and Holt are all out of contract in the summer and as yet have not been offered new deals. Fettis and Forrester, although under contract for another year, may decide not to spend another campaign as fringe players. Lewis is only on loan and it remains to be seen whether he or Taylor see him as a City player for next season.
Assuming these players, whether they stay or go, highlight those areas of the squad that might need strengthening, it looks as though we might be in the market for;
A teenage goalkeeper to provide cover and competition for Myhill. The likely candidate is a third or fourth choice youngster from a Premiership outfit. My choice: Luke Steele from Manchester United
A left footed defender who can play both centre back and left back, providing cover for both Delaney and Dawson; My choice: Andy Butler from Scunthorpe United
A left footed midfielder who can play both centre midfield and left wing, providing competition for both Green and Elliott; My choice: Luke Guttridge from Cambridge United
And a centre forward who can provide cover for Burgess. My choice: Steve MacLean from Glasgow Rangers
The squad would therefore look like: Myhill, Steele; Thelwell, Wiseman, Dawson, Peat?, Joseph, Hinds, Delaney, Butler; Price, France, Elliott, Guttridge, Green, Fry, Ashbee; Burgess, MacLean, Allsopp, Walters
Do you agree with Andy Green's proposed squad for next season? Who do you want to see City sign? Discuss it on the message board.
