Trying to Take Heart

Roy Hodgson must have wondered why he'd made the trip, unless to see the Edinburgh Festival, as surely he couldn't take notes on what was a very disjointed display from the Tigers.

If Phil Brown is trying to make people second guess his actual starting eleven v Fulham, then he must be getting rather confused himself after another inept display. Premiership sides will surely be licking their lips from what was served up.

The only plus point for me was that, hopefully, we will get a few free kicks from distance, as Geovanni's efforts were top class and the only way we looked remotely like scoring. He looked a class apart against a rather limited Hearts side who are going through turmoil themselves, especially as they start for real next week.

I can't believe that Halmosi won't start in two weeks. And where was Mendy? Maybe the Crewe game, after looking so promising against Chesterfield, has knocked confidence, but surely now is the time to settle him down, or is he injured? Boateng's disciplinary record stands up to Ashbee's and maybe some more cover may be needed in case of suspension problems.

After my summary earlier in the week, I was a little disappointed today. The only goal was a typically poor defensive error, with two players going for the same ball and no cover in the box for a free header. I did like the look of Tony Gardner though and he is a tall lad, but our backs are against the wall and, apart from Geovanni, the goal threat was sadly lacking today.

It's still only pre-season though and PB, in his pre-match interview, did say he was hoping to have two or three more players on board for two weeks' time. I remain hopeful!
