Hull City claimed all three points against Bournemouth, the Tigers fighting back from a goal down to take victory.
The Cherries started the brighter of the two teams and were 1- 0 up after 5 minutes.
Steve Fletcher broke free and hit a low long-range shot from a central position which sneaked past a diving Alan Fettis.
John Walters brought City back on level terms on 31 minutes before, four minutes later, the Tigers took the lead when Stuart Elliott nodded into an empty net from just inches out after latching onto Marc Joseph’s glancing header.
It was a lead Hull deserved after creating a host of chances. John Anderson’s header was cleared off the line by Neil Young, while Ben Burgess squandered a good chance from close range and Elliott subsequently hit the side-netting from two yards out.
Burgess went close again, Neil Moss doing well to hold onto his glancing header.
Shrewsbury, meanwhile, rarely threatened, Fettis hanging onto a Danny Thomas strike in a rare first-half opportunity.
Hull extended their lead shortly after the break, Elliott powering a header past Moss from six yards after meeting Carl Regan’s centre.
Elliott saw a shot beaten away by Moss as he searched for his hat-trick, while the Bournemouth keeper also collected a Delaney strike 20 minutes from time.
The Cherries kept plugging away and it took a magnificent save from Fettis to keep out Brian stock’s diving header, while moments later the keeper was there again to punch out a long range shot from Carl Fletcher.
