Hull ended their season at the KC Stadium on a high with their best result there to date - a 4-1 success over Kidderminster Harriers - to leave the visitors' play-off hopes in tatters.
City showed they meant business from the start and, in only the third minute, a strike from Stuart Elliott down the left channel hit the top netting.
Just two minutes later The Tigers were in front after Scott Stamps was ruled to have brought down Carl Regan in the area, and Ben Burgess calmly put his spot kick past Stuart Brock in the bottom left hand corner, chalking up his first goal for the club.
On 13 minutes, a rare effort from Harriers saw Dion Scott head over from a corner, while in the 21st minute Burgess saw his header from 12 yards out fly just inches wide of the left post.
Just after the half-hour, a shot from Elliott flew just wide of the right post, to the obvious anger of Burgess, who remonstrated at Elliott for not pulling it square.
On 38 minutes City doubled their lead when a mix up in the Kidderminster defence saw Burgess out fox Scott to score through his legs from a central position 12 yards out.
Just a minute later, Walters was given time to square up a shot but his effort was tipped round the post by Brock, which was quickly followed by another flashing cross by Elliott only just missed an unmarked Burgess.
After the restart Elliott and Walters both had chances and missed the target before Steve Melton shot over after 54 minutes.
Four minutes later, Harriers' substitute Hugh McAuley's free-kick from just outside the area went a couple of yards over the bar.
The pace had subsided slightly, but Kidderminster were soon brought back into the game on 60 minutes through Sean Parrish who latched onto a half clearance by Alan Fettis, who could then not stop the player's goalbound effort going past him and into the net.
Minutes later, Shilton hit the side netting as Kidderminster seemed to be getting back into the contest. But ten minutes before time Elliott slid a ball through to Walters on the left, totally catching out the Harriers defence, and with the advancing Brock caught in no man's land, he picked his spot and hammered a 20-yard shot into an empty net.
Two minutes before time the Tigers completed the rout and Burgess completed his hat-trick with an exquisite lob over Brock.
