Rochdale 0 Hull City 2

He was Hull City's manager Peter Taylor, who said: "Rochdale struck me as being a very good side."
"Even when we scored two quick goals they never let their shoulders fall down and they were troubling us to the end of the match."

The first of those two quick goals was scored by Stuart Green who got his head to an awkwardly bouncing ball from the left which beat the whole Rochdale defence before finding midfielder's head after 62 minutes.

And three minutes later hard-working, hard-running Ben Burgess got the second with a shot into the roof of the net after the home defence had been beaten once again by a cross from the left.

Fellow front runner Danny Allsopp was unlucky not to join Burgess on the score sheet.

But two was enough against Rochdale who found the Hull City defence pretty solid. However the one time when it wasn't was on the stroke of half time when Kevin Townson had got behind the defenders to find himself with a goal in front of him pleading to be taken. But Townson's shot went over the bar. This was about Rochdale's only real chance of getting a goal though Ged Brannan did manage to hit the foot of the upright with a shot in the first half.

Lively Allsopp kept Rochdale on their toes for much of the time and for once the Rochdale front runners Lee McEvilly and Townson had few chances to score, and when opportunity did knock they made a mess of them.

Rochdale just about held the upper hand in the first half and probably if Townson had taken the chance he got the result would have been a happier one for their Alan Buckley.

But as it was City took over in the second half and were often dangerous, but their shooting let them down though both Allsopp and Burgess both went close to making the Tigers' win more emphatic.
