Rushden maintained their push for promotion with a hard earned victory over Hull who were reduced to ten men by Justin Whittle's red card for a professional foul in the 35th minute.
Diamonds took the lead in the second minute when Damien Delaney put through his own net after being put under pressure by Stuart Wardley.
Hull should have equalised in the 22nd minute when Jamie Forrester shot wide when well placed and on 32 minutes Hull almost equalised when Jonathan Walters headed wide after a fine cross by Forrester.
The Tigers suffered a blow in the 35th minute when Whittle was sent off for a professional foul on Duane Darby although the decision seemed harsh.
On 41 minutes the visitors had an excellent chance when Andy Edwards mis-hit his back pass to Billy Turley and Forrester had a clear run on goal but shot against the post with only the keeper to beat.
Hull dominated the early stages of the second half and they got their reward on 58 minutes when debut man John Otsemobor, on loan from Liverpool, looped his header over Turley following a corner by Dean Keates.
Three minutes later Hull took the lead when Walters volleyed home following another corner, this time by Martin Reeves.
Rushden were stunned into action and on 68 minutes Onandi Lowe put Wardley through and after a saving tackle by John Anderson the ball rebounded to Paul Hall who shot home from just inside the box.
On 70 minutes Lowe was unlucky to see his shot hit the post and rebound to safety and four minutes later David Bell struck the crossbar with Alan Fettis well beaten.
After 87 minutes Rushden took the lead when Hull failed to clear Hall's cross and Lowe was on hand to shoot home from six yards out.
Diamonds put the game beyond doubt in the final minute when Wardley shot home after Hall had cut the ball back from the byline.
